1. What is ZenGengo?

ZenGengo is a platform for creating and administering a range of different language teaching and testing assignments for English, Spanish, French, and German, which cover all four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

It is compatible with smartphones, tablets, desktops, and laptops, and runs on all modern browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, iOS Safari, and Microsoft Edge.

Teachers can log into the site with their Google or Microsoft account and start making assignments immediately. Students do not need to register with the site, and simply input their details when they submit an assignment, thus making onboarding super simple and easy.

When a teacher makes an assignment, a link is generated, which can be passed to students for submission. Links can also be easily posted on the LMS of your choice, including Google Classroom, Blackboard, Moodle, and many others.

2. What assignment types are there?

ZenGengo currently offers 10 assignment types:

  • Audio Recording: Teachers can create and administer Audio Recording assignments. Students record the audio directly inside their web browser, and then submit their response to the teacher's dashboard for later listening and grading purposes.
  • Video Recording: Teachers can create and administer Video Recording assignments. Students record the video directly inside their web browser, and then submit their response to the teacher's dashboard for later viewing and grading purposes.
  • Written Report: Teachers can create and administer Written Reports, with optional minimum and maximum word limits and time limits. It is also possible to disable copy and paste, and to perform an automatic grammar check on submitted text, which highlights common grammatical errors.
  • Text Gap Fill: TeacherTools.Digital allows for the creation of Text Gap Fill activities, which are very versatile ways of testing both vocabulary and grammar knowledge. These activities can easily be made into listening tests with the naturalistic text-to-speech option.
  • Text To Test: The Text to Test assignment type allows you to automatically convert any text file into an interactive reading, listening, vocabulary and grammar test.
  • Video Gap Fill: Listening activities can be generated from any subtitled YouTube video, with the Video Gap Fill activity type. Students watch the video and fill in the word blanks.
  • Speaking Drill: The Speaking Drill assignment type utilizes Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) in order to provide students with instant feedback on their speaking comprehensibility.
  • Multi Choice: Multiple Choice Quizzes can be easily generated in order to check students' comprehension of the lesson content. Any Multiple Choice Quiz can be automatically converted into a listening quiz with naturalistic text-to-speech.
